Terms of Use
Last updated: 2026-09-11
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using CipherSend ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. What CipherSend Is (and Is Not)
CipherSend is a browser-to-browser tool for sharing short-lived text secrets — passwords, API keys, private keys, or TOTP seeds — with exactly one other person, one time, with end-to-end encryption.
- It is not a file-sharing tool, a message archive, or a password manager.
- It is not intended for storing or persisting any data.
- It is not a replacement for secure access-management tools used by teams on an ongoing basis.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree to use CipherSend only for its intended purpose: a one-time, one-to-one exchange of a short text secret between two consenting parties. You must not:
- Use the Service to transmit content that is illegal in your jurisdiction or the jurisdiction of the recipient.
- Attempt to disrupt, overload, or abuse the Service, including automated session creation, denial-of-service attacks, or exploitation of rate limits.
- Attempt to access sessions belonging to other users without authorization.
4. No Account Required
CipherSend has no accounts, no login system, and does not collect personal information. You are not required to provide any identity information to use the Service.
5. How Sessions Work
- Each session supports exactly two participants (the Host and one Guest).
- Sessions are single-use and self-expiring (idle timeout and hard time limit, enforced server-side).
- Secrets, encryption keys, and verification phrases are processed entirely within the browser and are never accessible to CipherSend's servers.
- Once a session ends, there is no way to recover or retrieve any data from it.
6. Your Responsibilities
- You are responsible for verifying the comparison phrase before approving a session.
- You are responsible for the security of your own device and browser.
- You are responsible for any content you type or paste into the Service.
- You acknowledge that clipboard sync features on your device or operating system may share copied content beyond the CipherSend app.
7. Availability
CipherSend is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, and the Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance or due to circumstances beyond our control.
8. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
CipherSend cannot and does not guarantee that: (a) the Service will be secure or free from bugs; (b) secrets transmitted through the Service will not be intercepted; (c) the Service will meet your specific requirements; or (d) the Service will be available without interruption.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, CipherSend and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, resulting from: (a) your use of or inability to use the Service; (b) any unauthorized access to or use of our servers; (c) any interruption or cessation of the Service; or (d) any bugs, viruses, or other harmful code that may be transmitted through the Service.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, and content, is owned by CipherSend and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the Service without explicit written permission.
11. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to update these Terms of Use at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
